Last Thursday afternoon I done oil change on my AU3 Falcon, and I have just looking at the invoice from Repco, and I noticed that I purchased and used Castrol Magnatec diesel oil, instead of my regular 15W-40 oil that I use.
I have a couple of concerns: By using a diesel spec oil instead of a petrol/ spec oil, will this cause any dramas? And I have been told that due to the higher detergent levels in diesel spec oil that it actually doesn’t hurt to run diesel oil thru a petrol/LPG car as it will clean everything out, again, any truth in this? And the reason why I done it? I was in a rush. The car is an AU3 Falcon, 6 cylinder, straight LPG Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I am not really qualified to reply on all the different oils but I do know lots of people who use diesel oil in all their cars/trucks and there are oils which are compatible with both petrol/diesel engines. Are you going to have problems in the long run/I don't think so.I hope this doesn't turn into the great oil debate that exists on other forums.Cheer Kevman.

Its not going to cause problems but i have to assume it doesnt have the intended performance and long term protection properties that the intended oil has

BTW while your mistake is ammusing its not nearly as funny as when my mates mum managed to fill the petrol car with diesel or the woman i once saw at a servo filling her engine with oil to the brim and then trying to start it...

My understanding diesel oil is high detergent which means it cleans all carbon built up around pistons. Which can result in a loss of compression. If you are really concerned give one of the oil companies a call gassa
