Hi Guys
Shortly after getting my new rims my front left wheel started making a ticking noise (the same noise you would get if there was a rock in the tyre hitting the road) now obviously i checked and there were no rocks, it was pretty loud above 60km/h after testing i managed to get the tyre place to acknowledge it was the rim and they ordered a new, swapped it over and this solved the ticking problem, the way i convinced them is by putting the spare on and having no ticking and also swapping the rim in question to the back right in which the ticking noise moved with it. Anyways was going great for about 4 or 5 months until i went on the highway and the steering wheel was shaking (hadnt done any hwy driving with them), so anyways got a wheel balance done only and on the way home the ticking noise had come back, again from the front left (let me tell you i was most p****d off) anyways went back and they swaped the wheel to the back of the car (ticking noise gone, well i think i just cant hear it anymore as its behind the car). If i am in a tunnel, against a wall or car however it is really loud and only happens when going over 80km/h, a few people have said there car has done it as well (on different wheels though) and could be a wheel bearing, the car is only 3yrs old and 70km on the clock, how long are wheel bearings meant to last and could this be the problem?, if it is why would putting a new rim on fix it to start with until they did a wheel balance? Most appreciate the help guys Cheers Phil

Post up some pics of the rims?
I have the same prob with my rims, they are Dolce DC16 in 20inch guise. The black trims on them are the cause of my ticking noise, they creak under pressure as they roll over the bottom side in their travels. I'm just super lazy so I put up with it. The noise only started after I pulled em off to give the rims a thorough polish. |

hmm thats most strange, here is the rim below Speed Wheels Race Spec 19" Its odd tho that the rim on the left kept being the issue even though it was replaced, i have checked the weights and the whole wheel after they put on the wheel to balance it and everything is solid

To me it sounds like the wheel bearings, i had similar problems with my XR6 got the bearings replaced etc, the difference was amazing (they made alot of noise like what u have described) and as soon as i got the car back was like driving complete different car!
Might be something different in your case, but it wouldnt hurt to get em checked out.

Being a BA-BF the bearings are a sealed unit so you cant service them. Have you checked the inner balance weights that attach to the rim at the tyre? They may be moving on every revolution.

hmm bugger, so i got replace it all, yeah checked the weights, they arent lose, even covered them up with tape, is there weights on the inside of the tyre as well or only the outside, i cudnt see any on the inside but i might double check again if there is
