hi i was wondering where in the rev rang the bulk of the power is in a falcon sohc 6cyl.
and can you remove the tappet cover without needing a new gasket. thanks David. |

I think according to the factory specs, peak torque is around 3500rpm and peak power about 4750rpm (i think), IMO a stocker will pull ok from about 2800rpm onwards. Once you start modding the car, the power band can become wider/narrower, higher/lower depending on the mods you do.
As for the rocker cover, I dont think it needs a new gasket every time you take it off but it would be better to ensure no leaks.

i was just wondering because my ute brakes traction in 2nd gear above 3500rpm with out dropping the clutch.

I think ur spot on for the power and torque ranges, if you take your tappet cover gasket off you wont have to get a new gasket because they are rubber. the only reason that you may have to replace the gasket is that if it was tightened up to much by the last person who tightened up the tappet cover. they normally seal them selves but i always put a bit of gasket goo on them.
