Cheers - Jaycar or d**k Smith. Is the best place for fitment into the intake manifold? I'm guessing this is the most accurate temp measurement before air reaches the engine....?

Hi Joe,
Have a look at this: {DESCRIPTION} In my case, I will buy two of the sensors and one display and put a switch in somewhere so I can get before and after intercooler temps. Apparently these guages handle up to 150 degrees C so should be good for it. Hey Disco Frank... who you calling Tweedle Dumb? rgds Frank |

OK. next question is where the heck am I gonna fit this thing... I may have to put it inside the guard.. which would be better anyway because it's cooler back there and would be stealth..
IT seems very solid and heavy so I doubt small stones would be an issue. |

{USERNAME} wrote: Dazzle, how are you measuring intake air temps....do you use a little probe style thermometer tapped into the intake manifold, or similar?
It was measured from the factory sensor thru the Stinger software. A probe would be a bit more accurate, but the sensor has been calibrated, so it should be pretty accurate. Cheers Daz

Took the RS intercooler out to the car... There is no way I can see of fitting this thing in the engine bay, particularly no stealth way.. .
so in the guard it goes.. have to cut two holes, for in and outlet, but other than that it should be relatively easy. It will be on it's side in the guard, so the normal filler hole will be sealed.. will put a new take in the engine bay.. added benefit is more water capacity and better place to mount the pump. |

M90's put out a lot of heat.
from memory on commo's running 6psi their outlet temps were around 60-70degs. 10-12psi IIRC you could see 85-90 and if you pushed them past their limits (15-17psi) you could see well over 130deg. This is all from memory but fairly sure their the rough figures. So with decent PSI an m90 wants a cooler.

Thanks Gaz, suspected as much.. the water to air should bring it down.. if not, I'll take other measures as well.. I will use a huge air con cooler for a radiator and have a seperate tank to increase water volume as well.

On the subject of those particular lcd temp sensors (XC0224).
The screen is attached to the probe, i have recently installed two of these on my turbo setup and it is informative on my intercooler's performance. To give you an idea during a 30* day with engine bay temps of 45*-50* (while the car is moving) i get the highest turbo outlet temp of 110*. After the intercooler the temp has dropped to 45*, now im currently working on a c.a.i feed directly to the ebgt bar to get cooler ambient temps instead of having 45* + engine bay temps. The design of the lcd screens seem fine altho there is no light inside to illuminate it during the night. |
