i have a 1968 zb fairlane, it is a 6 cyl pre cross, with column manual. i have fitted a 200ci pre-cross and b/w 35 from an xw, i used the engine mounts and base plates form the original zb motor, now i find the engine sits too high, and too far forward its touching the sway bar, but the trans sits too far back and the tranny x-member is about an inch and 1/2 from lining up with the holes! does anyone have any ideas why, is it the mounts i used as i thought all pre-x mount holes on the block are the same, i do know the block height is taller than the original motor, but still why is it not fitting.

Are you sure it's the earlier 200 that you have fitted and not the later XY - XB 200 or 250?

the guy i got the engine from said it was xw, whats the diff between the later xy-xb 200, and why would my tranny sit so far back when the engine is too far forward??

The XY - XB 200 & 250 is a lot longer & taller than the earlier engines
XK - XW 144, 170, 188, 200 & 221 are all the same length - The 221 is a bit taller than the others due to the longer crank stroke. The XY - XB 200's & 250's have the same block - You can interchange the crank & rods to make a 200 into a 250 Does your engine have a PCV in the rear of the tappet cover? |

Early 200's have a different bolt pattern ( for the engine mounts ) than the later ones, if I remember.......much like the 170's.......only 3 bolts per side????...instead of 4.?????......and mounted further forward.....????.....instaed of being near the centre of the block.

ok, i fixed the trans mount by grafting two mounts together to get the extra length i need, any ideas to get the engine to sit lower as the air cleaner hits the bonnet, remember i'm using the original zb mounts, i know the block height is taller but i checked the xy mounts and it makes no difference in the height of the motor.
