We used some stop leak deisil s**t in my mates 4runner. Stopped it leaking. I am getting the impression that you are not talking about a 'Head Gasket' but a 'Rocker Cover Gasket'. They are two very different things. The Rocker cover is the top cover on the engine held down by the 4 bolts. Please clarify. BenJ

Ahh benj. Where have you been all my life.
Thanks for asking that. Having just turned 18 my head hasn't been on straight haha. It is leaking from both. But I was mostly talking about the rocker cover gasket. Im such a doushe haha. Now. its a f**k cheaper to do the rockergasket then the head gasket isn't it. |

Yes, it should cost between $25 and $50 for the rocker cover gasket.
There are two types available. the cheaper one is a cork based gasket with rubber half moons, and the more expensive, and better option, is the full rubber gasket. It is as simple as undoing the four bolts, unhooking the throttle and cruise cables, and lifting the rocker cover off. You will find you need to rotate it on an angle towards the drivers side to clear the rear rocker gear etc. Installation of gasket is like any other car, then reinstall. Just don't over tighten the rocker cover nuts, as I have seen those rocker covers break down the middle. Cheers BenJ

Are those bolts the ones I should replace? Or are they re useable.
Thanks everyone. Even tho most turned out unrelated I know a little more about my car now haha. Also is it worth it to buy a top end oil filter or are they all pretty much the same? |

The rocker cover bolts should be ok to re use.
With oil filters i use either Ryco, Motorcraft or Valvoline Z9's. Ive had no problem with either. I do prefer the Ryco though.

You can use either. Fully synthetic i think is a waste if your car is stock. I use a 10W/50 oil mostly just mineral oil. I.e Shell Helix, Valvoline, Caltex etc. I may go for a semi synthetic one day but my car is nearing 390Kays now and still runs nice and i mostly use mineral oil.
