Hey guys

I have an EL with 100000km on it but it hasnt been started for 5 years. Im going to try and get it back on the road.

So what should be done to the engine to minimise the damage before i go ahead and start it or is the engine already going to be f**k. :(

Check oil, water, air cleaner, Just a quick check over to make sure nothing is broken. It will have a flat battery so either jump start it or put a new battery in it and just start it.

Id give it a service first, drain oil , check sparks etc, get some fresh fuel and give it a try.

Service it.
Leave plugs out and crank for 20-30 sec to pump oil through.
Should be fine.

I wouldnt service it first i would save my money in case its a lemon but i would pull the plugs out and mix a little of Diesal and Kero together and put down the spark plug holes leave the plugs out and then try and crank the motor after around ten minutes of leaving the mixture down the holes.
Or thats what i do with Valiants that have been sitting for years works for me.

Yeah i have serviced it. Well i have just bought the car of an old guy who said he was going to respray it (So its colour is primer but really straight) but half way through he got sick and stoped from then on. So 5 years later he has decided to make some room and sold it to me.

Prime the engine with oil so disconnect ignition somewhere and kick it over.

Id also change the oil and filter just with some cheap stuff to run the engine for a few hrs with then change to good oil and filter. Also change plugs and see if it runs.

Good luck

be cautious on the cooling system too, replace any fatigued rubber/pipes and check for movement in the water pump.

also on the cooling side of things, check the radiator. Especially where the holes actually connect to the radiator as these are plastic and often go brittle.

take a look at the fuel pump also.

if its been sitting there for 5 years and hasnt been cranked over then the fuel pump
mite not be in that great condition

From what you have said I doubt it would have been an A+ car before he decided to respray it. Disconnect ignition and turn over a few times to check oil pressure then kick it in the guts properly.
