Its actually a ZC Fairlane. The grille is different and the taillights are the triple decker ones same as an XW.
The ZC run a metal grille as above and the ZD runs a plastic grille.
ZD have the double ones same style as XY's.
No chance of it being charged from the factory.

I know stateside they were a pretty good factory option on studebakers and mustangs with the paxton blower from factory.

That paxton blower looks period correct, but the carb hat is a dead giveaway.

That has been fitted aftermarket at some stage, Probably using bracketry from a Mustang, but definately not from Ford

One of the blokes i work with said he had a mate down south that had a fairlane supercharged from factory. Maybe there is some truths behind this......

Not being a hater, It would be awesome if Ford had done this.Unfortunately, it would have been covered somehwere if it had been done.

Wheels or modern motor woulda been all over this like a bad suit if it had indeed come from the factory. Looks good though. Maybe it was built at ford, but would not have been "built" by ford motor company.

Cheers

Or more recently by Australian Muscle Car or Unique Cars. Also Bowdens would be hounding the owner for this car

Yeah it won't be factory but it's still way cool though.

I'd be thinking if there is any truth to the story about the lane it would be that it was a "special build" for an important ford employee, but not exactly what you would call factory built, like an xr6 turbo is. The reason i think there might be some truth to the story is that as the years are going on, we are uncovering more & more about little projects that ford & holden had that never were real production projects but were very cool.....

We know there are things that were done that were pretty rare, but it wasn't done in this country as much as it was in the USA. How about the Xu2 torana anybody? A couple supposedly factory built test car's do exist, but it was never built & sold to the general public.

A number of people like to say there were factory turbo torana's, but it was a factory sanctioned modification by normalair-garret, that you could order thru select dealers when you bought a torana. It wasn't built on holdens production line, but it was available, and a number were built. I've got the important bits in mine. :D

It looks like this lane could be a special build that has had a few updates over the years as the OP says. The air cleaner ducting to the charger reminds me of the ducting & big round truck like air cleaner the torana turbo had when it was first delivered. I'd love to know what power this old beast has!

Cheers

ToranaGuy
