i went to jb hi fi at highpoint yesterday they said hardly anyone makes 8" speakers let alone free air ones these days and offered a JL audio 8" that is suitable for both free air and boxed for $200.... bit pricey i reckon

Did you listen to it, most JL stuff is preety good from what ive listened to, might not be THAT expensive considernig your buying sa very un-popular sub size, ie: less of them sell so bit more pricey..
All adds up aye.

Ahh k, bugger..
Id expect them to be good, what kind of power u needing to look at powering the driver?

hey all,
I am looking to upgrade my sub and maybe speakers in a ef ghia was wandering what you guys have found is good. looking to leave the head unit and 6 stacker in. good idea? do any other size subs fit in the centre? will a new amp need to be purchased? and where abouts is the old amp located from the premium sound? how do you get 6*9's in the parcel shelf. Sorry for all the questions just brought my car and dont know a great deal. Cheers, Dyl.

why do you want 6X9's?
within reason, the stock amp will be fine with an aftermarket 10" or 12" sub, just dont expect too much from it (also, dont waste big $$ on a sub if you're just gonna use the stock amp) no, apart from finding another freeair 8", or making a adapter plate to mount a 10" under the hole, your only option is to get a sub in a box as for the speakers..... how much do you have, or want to spend?

at the moment i have nothing to spend but hopefully within a month or so i can buy some speakers for her. 6'' all round and then upgrade sub to a differnt 8''. how would that go?
