I was waiting for someone to say something about rockets
You dont need to use a torque wrench to tighten the rocker cover bolts mate, if you have one then by all means use it. I usually just use a 3/8 ratchet, 13mm socket, tighten them down from the middle outwards (good habit to get into). Once they start to tighten, then i stop as thats usually all they need to be torqued to. Main thing to watch out for is the rocker cover gasket, make sure its sitting properly or else it'll start leaking oil around the seal. Froudey has it spot on regarding the prep work. I usually strip the old paint off completely using a can of paint stripper, scrape it all off, sand it back smooth but not too smooth, so that the primer or your first base coat has a better surface to stick too. Clean it down really well with wax and grease remover, let it air dry for a bit, then spray your coats on, with maybe just doing a light sand and clean in between coats to ensure it sticks as well as possible although I usually dont do this as i spray the next coat on just before the last one is completely dry - saves me a bit of time and ive never had a problem |
