hi guys. as theres hardly any information on xh and ed xr ecus id like to ask the following. mines a 6 cyl ed fairmont
1. will the xh ecu alone improve fuel efficiency? 2. how do i keep the original ed fairmont trip computer still fully working as i want to keep the interior fully original? 3. will eb2 93/ed xr6 ecus alone improve fuel effiency? 4. will eb2 93/ed xr6 ecus work with fairmont ed trip computers? 5. if i just put a xr6 head on with the xr6 ecu will it work or does the whole engine have to be changed? 6. will eb2 93/ed xr6 ecus work with standard 6 cyl engines? will a ed or el tickford xr6 engine fit a standard ed fairmont engine bay |

1. No
2. with the XH ecu? trip computer is independant of the ECU 3. No 4. Yes 5. It will work, engine is independent of the ECU (generally) 6. Yes unnumbered. Yes Perhaps you should post what you have in mind, and people will give you their opinions? Cheers

yeah ok thanks for the advice just thought id ask different questions in numbers so i can get some answers so i can make a decission on what i think will be best.
if i put a eb2 93/ed xr6 auto ecu in without changing the engine and keeping the original engine for now will the car idle smooth and properly or will it miss and will i need standard spark plugs or xr spark plugs. i do know about leaving the car on ign for 1/2 hr or so to teach the new ecu to talk to the smartlock. even though i might put the xr6 auto ecu in ready for the new engine later will that alone give more power and better fuel effiency until i get the new engine. might get a ef/el tickford engine but have to use a eb/ed xr6 ecu to keep the log manifold |

Your car will run fine with the XR ecu.. you don't need to to "teach" it smarlock, as that's in the smartlock module, not the ECU. (they are seperate).
You won't get any more power, and you won't get better fuel efficiency. The only power you will gain is from the head, and even that will be probably unnoticeable. Personally I would not bother with the XR head and HR ECU... because they will not yeild this VAST power everyone seems to think it does. Have a read through here http://www.fordmods.com/forums/3-9l-4-0l-inline-6-modification-guide-t66.html ^^ That will give a good idea what to do in terms of upgrading. Cheers

what about a el tickford/xr6 engine with a eb2 93/ed xr6 ecu will i get more power by that and will even a ed xr6 engine and ed xr6 ecu give more power too. just working out what ill do when the head or full engine goes in my car.
also what causes bad fuel efficiency in my ed fairmont. what things should i do to fix it |

If the engine is stock, XR or not, an XR ecu will only give you marginal increase in performance. Much better performance can be gained from aftermarket parts as opposed to OEM parts (such as a tickford head/cam).
Not trying to discourage you or anything, I'm just saying, have a look at other options as opposed to throwing in tickford parts. Things like an aftermarket cam, and head work done professionally (not just replaced with a tickford one). To prove my point - have a look at the quoted factory figures (ED vs ED XR6, EL vs EL XR6), the difference is only a couple of kw's. And that translated to the wheels is barely noticeable. Cheers

what are the common causes of higher fuel consumption in the ed 6 cyl fairmont just wondering

Your right foot been the biggest factor, but apart from that it's sensors mostly... but also wear and tear on other things... what do you mean higher? Like how much higher? What consumption are you getting?
But yeah, can range from a bad connection, to misaligned wheels, to leaking gaskets. Cheers

well the trip computer registers anything between 14-17 l per 100 kms and my uncle recons its too high. i do go slow. would spark plug and oil change be a start.
what other cheaper stuff should i start with. im thinking of cleaning the isc valve as well as the taco sometimes moves up and down the odd time |

give it a good service, and run a diagnostic check on the ECU (how to do this can be found in the technical documents section), that should tell you if anything is wrong.... but 14-17 isn't anything too excessive though.. :S

hi.
1. if you install a eb smartlck/ed xr6 ecu in a eb smartlock/ed fairmont, will all the fairmont options still work? 2. is the xr6 fuel usage the same as a standard ford 6 cyl |
