i have an ef xr6, when its at idle the oil pressure will either be really low or really high as in both almost in the red, when the car is moving the oil pressure sits high just under the red, i thought there might for some reason be too much oil but the dipstick says the oil is low, the car is also burning oil, it blows smoke out when the revs get high, which i guess might be the piston rings for that one. the head gasket was also replaced about 3 months ago.
any help would be great cheers |

I wouldn't put alot of faith in what the guage on the dash is reading. If you think there is a oil pressure problem, get the car checked out with a external oil pressure guage by a mechanic. Because your dash reading is odd, it cold be just the pressure sender unit. But to be safe, get the pressure checked. As for your smoke problem, does sound like rings, might also be valve stem seals. Did you replace them when you did the cyl head?

If you mean the valve stem seals? You would think that the shop would. Depends tho on what work was done to the head. If it was just a reface and that was all, then they probably wouldn't have checked them. Personaly I've never done a head without replacing the stem seals. Only takes little while to pop the springs off to fit them and I can check the guides out while I'm there. I'm not a fan of reface and refit, all the heads I do, (bout 200 a year) get checked right out by my engineer before I refit them. Least that way if the engine does smoke after, least it rules the head out! Good luck with it.

well im pretty sure the seals would have been replaced because i had to get a new head for the car.
could it be the oil pump or something like that, i dont know too much about these engines thanks |

Sounds tho the seals would have been done if the head was new. Think you need to see a mechanic you can trust and get oil pressure checked and ask him bout the smoke.
