Got to say Xcabbis got a point.
and our ef had 350k on it, but it was pretty rough, the gearbox wasn't very healthy, basically no reverse needed a coil pack Still gearbox was better than 100k old hyundai gearbox, and in all retrospect, service history was, well a motor cost x dollars, y services cost f dollars, forget it will take the gamble, probably got an oil chage every 100? so falcon aren't ones for lieing down easy.

The only problem with a high mileage falcon would be the interior would be looking a llittle shabby. If it doesn't use/leak oil, blow smoke, idle like a spark-plug lead has been pulled, have rough lethargic gear changes or slip in gear, or float and bump steer all over the road then its about as good as a new car.
I'm about to start turning my AU into a drag car but not yet as its still the most reliable and comfortable car I have ever driven. Sure it looks like a smashed crab but I just can't strip it down and cut it up yet. Once it dies a slow and natural death it will be fine I guess. |

Yeah all good points. I bought it for $2000.
Only probs so far is it has a minor 'chug' when it goes into reverse and slightly when going back into drive, and sometimes when going from second back to first, and a very slight rev raise when going from third to fourth.. But I have a spare box anyways. The doors won't stay locked and the remote is half broken, but the interior is in as new condish apart from a third-of-a-5-cent-piece sized mark on the roof lining and a missing ask tray. A scratch and minor dent on the rear door and a few stone chips near the bonnet area. A quick question, new remotes can be programmed to be used can't they?

Good score. Remember to post up some pics. And yes the remotes can be reprogrammed. Its all in the owners manual. Did you get it with the car? If not I can dig mine up tomorrow arvo and post up the procedure.

I'll def post up pics, by the time I got home today it was too dark to take any.

program remote by turning the key to the first click acc - press the demister button down 3times within 5 seconds the doors will cycle from Lock to unlock press the button on the new remote the doors will lock if its successful

Just sounds as if the box could do with a service, would probably then do another 200,000 kms after you spend the $100 or so on it.
As for the doors, perhaps one of the rods is jammed if they all make noise but pop back up? Or if theres no door lock action the fuse may be blown, or the BEM faulty. Sounds like a decent buy for $2k for a daily. Is it on gas or not? the gas argument sort of popped up out of no where |

The gas argument popped up because the general perception is that only crs that have such high mileage are fleet vehicles (most likely taxi's) that have been put on gas. My million km Fairlane is straight petrol but the dual fuel ex cab out performs it.

most people seem to think that duel fuel is bad, sure it might run rough and obviously it wont have the smoothness and power of petrol. but according to my dad(ex mechanic) a well serviced motor with a half decent gas system will out last a petrol motor..
the part where people go wrong and have problems with duel fuel is they don't regularly run it on petrol and they skip services, this alone (in his experience) is why duel fuel is not considered as good as petrol.. either way, congrats on the buy, and possibly drain a tiny bit of tranny oil to see the condition of it, i dont think au's have a dipstick so this is the easiest and quickest, if its not to clean give it a service

i've seen lpg cars with high kays and the oil hadn't been changed for ages...the oil was clean as f**k looked like it had just been changed...so it must lube good...a falcon is only just run in at 200,000 they run for ever if looked after.
tho i'd rather straight lpg then dual, you can never get it tuned perfect with both lpg does have a higher octane |
