Hi.
There is already a rear sway bar fitted from factory on an EL Fairmont. So you wish to upgrade to a larger one? Have you already got a thicker bar on the front? It is not a good idea to upgrade the rear without already having upgraded the front. Whiteline are considered to be one of the best aftermarket sway bar manufacturers. If you own a workshop manual like a Gregorys, then you will have no problem swapping them out. If you have any experience at all working on cars, then you will find it relatively straight forward. i have the whiteline blade style adjustables under my elxr8 and i can say they work very well.
the adjustables are a bit over kill for the average user (great for track work) but even the non adjustable sway bars make a good diference as long as your suspension is up to scratch. whats your reason for wanting to upgrade the rear bar?

just a el falcon futura..have 27 mm on front, looks like 20-22mm on rear.. running king superlows and monroe gt sports; just wanna upgrade suspension in general. camber kits, nolathane etc.. will do both sway bars if need be. thought 27mm up front was probly ok; thinking the rear mite need a bit of beefing up...
is there a difference in size in lsd or stock open centre diff housings?? (for sway bar fitting...) |

No difference...............rear std is 22mm.
I have a 30mm on the front and a 27mm on the rear. The front is an adjustable blade type, fixed at the stiffest point. If you fit a rear sway bar, good idea to brace up the outer mounting points, coz they'll break/crack. I made my own mounting kits, found the ones supplied weren't up to scratch.

cjh..what brand is your rear sway? 27mm front and rear would suit.. just a daily driver for me; not needing track performance, but i do like to corner...

They are Whiteline......I don't do tracks either....there isn't any here......and I love corners.....need better seats now... . You can see some pics in the Garage section......My new ED project....something like that. I think theres pics in there on the way I braced up the rear mounts.

I got a pedders 30mm front sway bar and i made a huge difference, cjh what did you use to make the back mounting points stronger? I have been thinking about getting a rear sway bar but not sure if i would need it or not. At the moment the front feels really strong and really flat when you go around corner but you can feel the rear isn't as level.

I used flat bar, 25 x 3mm....or 32 x 3mm....it was somewhere around that size.....and about 80 to 100mm long.

its a simple job though it can be a fiddle to get it over the diff...make sure when you jack the car that you have the axle hanging down to give you lots of space ie dont have jack stands under the axle, locate them elsewhere.
I have done a few whiteline bars for people and this year 3 out of the 4 packages were defective (damaged bushes ot the wrong links) Recommend doing the front as well for best balance, unless you really like throwin the back out.

Considering getting a Whiteline 30mm front, 24 back non adjustable. Anyone able to say if this combo favors under/oversteer from standard? or is it fairly neutral with both.

27mm rear is pretty big, i didnt think whiteline did an off the shelf 27mm rear?
i had 30mm + 24mm whiteline bars in my old ED. that was pretty neutral.

whoops my bad
yea its fairly neutral, still has a bit of understeer if you push toooo hard which is nice and safe, but you can get it to tuck the nose in alot more with a lift off then stock.

I'd say the 30/24 combo is slighty inclined to oversteer in my car, but it realy depends how you take a corner. Technically the 30F 24R should effectively stiffen up the front realtive to the back over stock. The best way i reckon is to go into the corner hot then the car will tend to just slide sideways(neutral). But if you go too slow then realise you can go faster it will flip the back. if you go in realy hard, or the corner is tight it will understeer.
