The horn pad lifts off, it's a tight fit but it comes off

thanks guys, i didnt want to damage it because the top and bottom seemed like it would come off but the sides seem to wrap around a fair bit... any idea what the noise could be from? sounds like the plastic urrounding the column may be rubbing on the steering shaft

The sides aren't connected to anything, only the top and bottom, I'll find some pics I have of my old one so you can see.

The grinding will be the clock spring contacts worn out.

[humour]So you fixed it BOSXR8? I was going to say, you just bring that naughty steering wheel to Papa Smurf and I will get that pesky thing off and give you one that is easier to take off, I will even get rid of that naughty wheel for ya? :D

With older cars, you can get away with 1 wire running up the centre of the steering column without any issue. The clock spring will allow for items that require more than 1 wire running to the steering wheel to turn with the steering wheel without pulling the wires loose. On the EB/ED, it would be wiring for cruise control. On newer cars, it can cover items like bluetooth switches, audio controls, headlight switches, steering wheel shift buttons etc.

lolll im sure i will figure it out this weekend!!! the thing is i didnt want to pull the pad off with too much force as i know how much these are worth and didnt want to damage it. so in that pik, the two c haped pads on the side are not part of the horn pad? hmmm def need to look at it again...

im thinking those two brass contact things are what are making the noise... is that what your referring to??

its been a while since i have been on this site, i almost forgot how awesome you guys are! now that the blue oval is back im sure to be on a lot more! thanks so much for your help.

Those C shaped pads are part of the horn pad. There is about 3-5 mm of the pad that covers the back of the spokes all around
