Who here is running a SOHC I6 with a snapped passenger side timing chain guide?
My old mans EBII Fairmont has done 320,000kms, and 100,000kms ago had to replace the rocker cover seal due to it leaking and noticed it was snapped, no idea how long it has been like that for, but runs fine. Last edited by twr7cx on Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:56 am, edited 1 time in total. |

my ex taxi's guide was snapped when i went to replace the head gasket, i put it back in again still broken and its going fine. has done 842,000kms on original motor, so i dont know how long its been broken but would guess a long time... revs out to 5500rpm without any dramas. i'd do it again too, leaving a broken guide that is.

The one in the mont's broken. The workshop who decked the head for me said 90% of the heads they deck for customers have a busted guide, and they've never had a drama when they havent replaced it (at owners request).

I ran one for at least 50,000k's, no problems. Didn't even know it was broken until pulling the head off one day and going "WTF...." Amazing... Thing is, the parts are held captive by the timing cover and the chain spins the right way to hold everything together at that point... So the chain still rubs on the guide and the guide can't go anywhere...
Yeahp, just ignore it. |
