I am interested in buying one of those filtermag products for the filter on my XR8. these are basically rare earth magnets that trap the metallic particles that the paper filters cannot due to them being a compromise between flow and filtering ability.
what are peoples thoughts experiences on these? any problems? or just a good solid investment? thanks |

Or get a magnetic sump plug?
Either way, it's not necesary, but not a bad idea. |

Magnets are only good for catching ferrous metals, ie - Iron. It wont stop the bits of alloy, aluminium, copper, lead, tin, and plastic from flowing around your oil system. Many a windsor oil pump has been ruined/locked up from the bits of plastic that wear off the cam sprocket. No magnet in the world will fix that.

mate if youve got metal floating around in your oil i would opt for a oil change not a magnet, regular oil changes before your oil is bad is the way to go....when i change the oil in my car it still looks new...

i change my oil every 7500 and it comes out clean, more of a preventative measure than anything

I reckon 7500k's is a bit too long between oil changes, especially in an XF if it's getting a bit long in the tooth. I won't go over 5000k's between oil and filter, no matter what the service books say. And use a good oil, not cheap s**t.
