I have put in a EF Fairmont dash into my ED V8 wagon. I have an issue with the climate control though. When I did this conversion, I used the fan control module and the blue vacuum solenoid off the donor EF. When I turn the ignition on and fire up the climate control, the thing blasts out cold air. I cannot adjust the temperature(stuck on 19.5*) or the fan speed(stuck on H) but I can get the blend door working 100%. I plugged another climate control unit in and it basically does the same thing but its temp is stuck on 16*

I cannot get the diagnostic function working though. I turn the car onto ignition and hold down the MODE and OFF buttons but nothing happens when I release them. I dont understand? Can anyone ehre who has done this conversion tell me what the hell is going on??

Hi, I dont know if this helps, but the manual says "PRESS MODE & OFF SIMULTANEOUSLY - HOLD & WAIT 30 SECONDS".
It takes about that long to activate diag mode on my EL Fairmont.
I had problems with my Blend door motor a while back, it was similar to what you describe. It was an E2 error message. (Movement of blend door out of range) Turned out the actuating arm on the BDM was loose. I replaced the BDM - problem fixed. (It is nearly impossible to figure out where to reset the position of the arm) I did the job myself without venting the air, by loosening the heater box & all the pipes etc in the engine bay & sliding the heater box back just enough to loosed the 4 BDM attachment screws with a small right angle philips head screw driver. It took a while but beats recharging the AC (which in my case had just been recharged anyway). My Local friendly Ford dealer quoted $1100 up. I did the job for less than $100 & a few hours work. Hope this helps - Bonzer

Thanks mate. Much appreciated. Could a mod please move this thread into the correct sub-forum?

I ended up pulling the thing apart and cleaned the rubber pads and contacts. Goes now and has no error messages for me either.

something so small and something that can fail should have been left somewere accessable
$1100 to repair it that is half of market value and it is really frekin anying
is there a way to gain access to the blend air and have it open for winter and closed for summer or vice versa ??
