Seein as sum fools decided to start sledgin each other/me on my first thread, i thought id start a new one for anyone who might like to actually help.

Basically, i drive a bog standard AU fairmont (yeah, i know the wood is fake), and im lookin to give it a bit more in the grunt department. (well, who wouldnt, right?)

The problem is this; im part way thru a double degree and things are startin 2 get pretty tight, dollars wise.

Iv got no problem savin up for a while to b able 2 afford parts etc, but im not the most mechanically minded one out, so i dont really know whats worthwhile.

Any ideas on the cheapest/best/most effective mods would be much apreciated.

P.s. Keep your smart a** answers to yourselves, i would actually like to keep this thread unlocked.

this might give you some ideas..

i recently just got my exhaust done, i got a Redback Catback exhaust system with a straight through pipe (no rear hotdog muffler), probably the closest sound you will get to a v8 from a 6 in my opinion. Gives a small increase in power, i found not exactly a heap of a power increase but it seems to rev a little bit smoother through the mid-high rev range. and it only cost me $300. Exhausts are usually the first thing most young people upgrade (me included)

exhaust, extractors you could get these cheap second hand.
cia you can make one for $20.
cam the au equivalent of 1673 with the xr head will be a good increase and if you get the cam as a regrind it will be cheep and a head from the wreckers should not be two much.
if its auto then change it to manual or get some diff gears.
get lsd or lokka so you can have some more fun.
get the ecu flashed tuned.

First thing I did was also an exhaust.
I got fords 2.5" sports exhaust. Its not loudas f**k. Sounds like a stock fpv I reckon. And does give more power.
Then I puton a pod filter with cold air. Gave a tad more power. Plus sounds even better.

But the most power I've gotten was by replacing my accelerator cable. Mine was rooted. Dunno about yours. But have a look at it. Cos if its not opening fully there's really no point to do any other performance mods.
