Hi guys (and gals) I recently purchased an Explorer manifold and a 70mm polished Ford Racing throttle body, for my 5lt stock NF Fairlane, question - do i need to run an egr spacer or can i use a egr delete spacer, and are the thicker ones better? i've seen 3/4" and 1" as well, also is it worthwhile getting the phenolic spacer for between the top and bottom halves?, i know this is probably covered elsewhere, but with search not too good, i can't find too much info -pls help any info on this conversion would be great.

The Explorer intake doesn't have the EGR port so EGR won't work. But I suggest using an EGR spacer with the right size (70mm in your case) opening and mounting the EGR Solenoid and EVP Sensor as per original setup. Keep it all connected to vacuum and electrics and your EEC will still think it's working correctly and avoid error codes which can invoke limp home mode.
When I do an Explorer Intake conversion on EB-EL 5.0's I use the EGR delete plate that the AU2 XR8's came with, drill and tap it for the EGR Solenoid and EVP Sensor, and drill and tap a hole on the upper intake just in-board of the EGR plate for the original IAT sensor.

OK i've got the 70mm polished Ford Racing throttle body and matching polished EGR spacer, as well as a "reco" MAF (70mm also) and a phenolic spacer all from the US (Ebay strikes again) inlet gaskets, so i'll probably wait till after Xmas to fit it all up, hopefully it will run ok!

Use the 70mm AU or Cobra MAF body with your hotwire on it. This gives a nice improvement in the A/F ratio and skews the load calcs enough to give some slightly more aggressive spark advance.
