ok so new to forum have looked around for what i need to know but cant find anything i have came across 4 v8's (coff 308 coff) 302 350 chev and 351 and how do you tell 351 boss engine from 351w/c??? im not sure at all?

Windsor has an alloy timing cover and the t'stat housing bolts to the inlet manifold.
Clevo has a flat steel plate for a timing cover ( part of the engine block ), and the t'stat bolts to the top front of the block.
Boss engines....completely different heads to Clevo and Windsor. Not sure what the bottom end are...maybe Windsor????

Are you talking about the new Boss engines or the Boss engines from the 60's to 70's.
The older Bosses have Windsor blocks with Cleveland heads.

yeah the old engines sorry should have stated that, i'll get a pic of it tomorrow when i pick up other engine's

Boss 351's look identical to a 302/351C because they are a Cleveland engine. They have finned alloy rocker covers, alloy intake, holley carb and a solid lifter cam.
They were NOT as some people think Cleveland heads on a 351W block.
Only the Boss 302 was a 302w with a Cleveland heads on it.

I'll have to dig out an article on that....Boss engines had their own heads.....I think the ports were round, not oval......trying to remember here...... :?

Check the difference between U.S Boss and XY GTHO specs...

Boss 302 heads were really just cleveland 4V closed chamber heads without the coolant transfer hole in the head face and holes added to the intake face for the windsor style cooling.
The ports were just as huge and oval shaped as the 4V cleveland head, some early ones had ridiculous 2.25" intake valves instead of the better(less shrouded) 2.19" intakes.
'71 Boss 351 heads are just closed chamber 4V's for 11.7:1 compression. The '72 Boss got open chamber 4V's(only 8.8:1 comp) and an iron intake just like our GTHO's. Obviously the '71 engine is the one to have.

In America, certain 351 Clevelands were called boss motors, and were all Cleveland with 4V heads.
Many people talk of the hybrid, 351 boss which is a 351 Windsor bottomend and Cleveland top end, and most even call it a boss if it has 2V or 4V heads, as long as it is Cleveland headed??

The real 302 Boss motor is the 302 Windsor with the original boss 4V heads. The 4V heads were out before the Cleveland heads, but when the Cleveland was introduced a few years later with 4V heads, they were basically the same as the 302 boss, but didn't have coolant running through the manifold like a windsor, same big ports, cantered valves, same head chamber, same looking.

The 351 boss motor was the performance motor looked pretty much the same (rocker covers alloy inlet etc) but she is all Clevo 4 bolt mains as well , remember the yanks didn't have 2V clevelands only 4V, as stated previously Boss 302's were windsors with 4V cleveland heads modified to fit, but there was no "factory" 351W with Clevo heads, although it has been done - a mate built up one many moons ago for a Stang, easy 425+ hp.

The yanks did have 2V Clevelands, but only with openchamber heads, unlike our 302C heads with closed chamber.

Yes and they were as suggested by the name, only 2 barrel equipped.
Only in Oz did we get 2V sized heads with a 2V port sized 4 barrel intake...definitely a good move.
