Hey Guys,
I am thinking of changing my Auto gear box over to a manual gear box. How hard would that be and how much should I set a side for this project. Cheers Adz_10 |

Not too hard. Box, pedal box, fluid line and ecu. Ecu needs to be flashed by Fraud. Depending on where you get it from, about $3000

Cheers Adz_10 For what kind of car? anything pre AU is easy as pie.. AU I am pretty sure you need the proper ecu for the car to run properly and BA there is dramas as you need the ECU BEM ICC etc from all the same car (and possibly loom) to convert properly... Search the forums via the search button to find the BA info. But I am 95% sure it is a big headache. Geoff

Where in Brisbane are you, as I have a mate who did the first BA manual conversion years back. As the first we discovered what was do-able and not.

hey mate, i've done the manual conversion too, and according to 67rce i must be about the second to have done it (though im sure there would have been others before both me and 67rce's mate, that don't use the forums)
Anyway, what you need. gearbox, bellhousing, crossmember, sandwich plate, yoke, tailshaft, flywheel, clutch, pressureplate, pedalbox, fluid reservoir, centre console surround and boot, shifter and knob. Then there's the ecu and wiring loom. I have the manual ecu and wiring loom, but apparently ford can use the auto loom and ecu - HOWEVER - when ford tried to line up the ecu for my car they couldn't find the ecu map for the manual, so they tried to use the auto ecu. They couldn't get that to work, so they ended up searching for the right ecu map for the manual, then it worked flawlessly. There are literally thousands of ecu maps form BA-BFII, so finding the right one is quite difficult. My ecu has the sticker for the 3 letter map on the side, but has the 2 letter map encoded on the ecu. you do not need the ICC or BEM from the donor car, ford just has to make the ECU talk to the ICC and BEM in your car. provided they have the right map, it's not hard. If you seriously want a manual conversion, send me a PM. I have a COMPLETE T5 conversion with 30-35,000 km on it, so its barely broken in. I have too many projects going at the moment, so it's just collecting dust... The Bedford is almost done, then the Firebird will have preference, then the Boat, but the race car always seems to jump to the top of the queue... But considering we won the state championship this year, i guess it's allowed to.. After all thats done, i'll start looking into putting a BA motor and (If i still have it) the manual box into an escort or something similar.. just need a few more hours in the day.. Anyway, i hope this helps.

MaTTeB, IIRC you did your manual conversion just after Ken did his, to the OP, if you need a hand from someone who has done the conversion, PM me or samftr
