Hey All,
So I'm upgrading the stock speakers in my BA Fairmont Ghia. I went to a few places looking at speakers and the best range appeared to be at JB. They have 3 types in my price range and I was wondering what everybody thought or would recommend: Choice 1: Cadence XS682 5x7 2-way 150max/50rms Choice 2: Orion CO570 5x7 2-way 100max/40rms Choice 3: Kicker DS680 5x7 2-way 70max/35rms The speakers will be running off an 800w amp (4x200max/100rms). I will be introducing a 12" sub in a month or so, so im not after a lot of bass from these speakers, hi's and mid's mainly. Thanks guys!

the kicker speakers are great. So are the cadence.
the amp is rated 4 x 200 max/100 rms at 2 ohms i'm guessing. so at 4 ohms (which is the speaker impedence), 4x 50rms. you'd probably want to try and get the speakers that are closest to that rms rating, that way you will get better quality sound by powering the speakers fully.

Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks to Cam and Joe but although the Slick speakers would be great, there about $80 outside of my budget! I could get the Alpine Type R from JB for $229 (which is RRP on the alpine site, so probably less than that), but again, outside of my budget. Everyone seems to like the Cadence. I must admit, last time a bought speakers (which was a loooong time ago, Cadence wasn't even sold at JB, hence i've never heard of them). When i looked at them, they seemed a little flimsy, I think the housing was plastic? Is anyone actually using these speakers that could comment on them. They do appear to be the best in the price range in terms of power. Thanks!

Are you buying 2 sets? Or are you saving the other 2 channels on the amplifier for the sub?

I'm buying 2 sets (front and back) and then buying a second amp to drive the sub.
Thanks.

Why not get one higher quality set or go for a set of 6" splits and find a way to mount them? The results will be much better for the same amount of investment.

as joe said, the components will sound better, but the price tag is usually steeper.
I did an install with a cadence sub, pretty entry level but a good performer. just make sure you listen to all the comparisons before you buy.

Coaxials blow goats, buy splits.
My mate fitted Alpine splits 5 x7's in his, sounds great. As already said, you could mod the hole to fit 6 - 6.5's, i have 6.5 JL's in my BF. Way better than the factory "premo sound" rubbish.

Spend more money on the front splits and just run the stock rear speakers (off the amp though). Also if possible I would buy a bit more powerful amp so you can slightly underrun it.

Seriously do people google "f**k up modifications for Fords owned by Jews" and get linked straight to this site nowadays? AU,factory fitted tickford kit/IRS, t5,Sports ryder/KYB: gone. |
