Done a search here and some certain other forums but it doesn't really come up with what I'm looking for.

What ignition leads does everyone use on thier 5ltr with GT40P heads? Some people have been having custom MSD ones made up but others just say the OEM ones perform the best??? I am changing the coil packs to the MSD 8241's and would prefur to change the leads at the same time.

There used to be a guy over at FordForums who made up custom MSD leads but he isn't doing it anymore. If you do recommend going anyone other than the OEM leads, can you point me in the right direction where I would be able to pick up a set?

On the topic of leads, and MSD leads in particular, is it normal for the leads to arc onto steel parts of the engine or onto other nearby leads?

During the recent dust storms and with a nice thin layer of dust under 'ones' AU bonnet, I saw what looked like small tiny lines in the dust on the leads and they were where the lead was touching other parts of the engine.

Any thoughts on this?

:shock: :shock: def not normal.
only place that should be shooting spark is at the end of your spark plug.

does the car run good/normal while this is happening?
im going to run my car in the shed in the dark and have a look at mine as im using MSD leads also.

I should take a photo of it, the best way of describing is that where the leads touch one another and where they hit other bits of metal such as the standard chrome fuel rail, you can see like little, tiny lines where the electricity is making its path to an earth. This is very easy to see with the recent fine dust that has found its way under the bonnet. BTW, these are chunky brand name leads too. You're right there millard, what I need to do is open the bonnet and run the motor when it's dark and see if we can see where the electricity is tracking. The engine has surging problems and with the vapor injection, runs crap from what I'm told.

I wouldnt be driving it until you get the arcing sorted, that is not normal.
Do all the leads do it?

are your leads old?? just spray soapy water to check arcing at night. My leads do it on the heads when i spray over the boot ends. Its not normal, i got some of those boot heat shields. It stoped the arcing by covering the boots exposed to the sparkplug opening on the heads.

Yes thats the response i'm getting from most people so have decided to get a custom set made up from A1 Hi Performance over in WA for $190 which I think is very reasonable considering the group buy on FF was about $165 for the set if I remember correctly?
