OK.. Got an EF XR, pump is shagged, makes bugger all pressure, about 15psi, I just gotta get it though to early jan before i can drop the existing motor and install my fresh one with now high volume oil pump.
I think I already know the answer to this question BUT, I am thinking something like a 50w oil, good molasses thinkness, or do I go the other way and throw some thin stuff at it? I have always gone thick on cars with bearing clearance issues, it just needs to buy me some time. I am also going to run some engine flush through in vain just in case it does something. Advice or approval?

Advice or approval? I would say the thinest to help the pump pass it thru the system.

you will need the thickest oil try a 25w70 oil there are a few oil companys that make it
regarding the oil flush make sure it is a detergent base not solvent based the deterent base ones are wynns and nulon valvoline and the other cheap ones are usually solvent based which can cause more damage or move more carbon build up into the pump or around the pick up also remove the oil filter and try to blow compressed air back thru the filter adapter and relief oil you might have a blockage there this might get you thru till next year i think the cheapest 25w70 oil is made from gulf western oils they are based in penrith there the quality is right up there with castrol and valvoline if not better |

OK well, trusty penrite 15 got dropped in today, I did the oil flush, changed oil and oil pressure is back up to about 20psi(ish), will just see how long it lasts and if there is any more lifter noise that sounds like the 7 dwarfs are trying to mine through the rocker cover from the inside out.
Short term fix.. jan plans are change to el wiring and ecu and intall snail for extra power/fuel consumption!! Build thread will be done on that!

Nulon 40/70.
Wil give all pressure to anything. I run it in my old ED and it had 460000kms on it and was falling apart but it actually built up pressure.

90w140 gear box oil. That'll get the pressures up......for a little while. You may not want to stand too close to the oil filter though.....

I think I'll give this one a miss, thanks for the suggestion. TerroristGHIA wrote: Penrite HPR50/ I got at least 3k more from my old XD before it called it quits on that stuff. ANd it was rooted Brett Brett this is my next option. the HPR 15 has given some pressure but its not consistant, but it appears enought to keep things moving for now, lifter noise if shocking at load but its more embarasing than anthing, people probably think I havn't looked after the car. Only got it monday, its had alot of love since then, 2 new tyres some ball joints tomorrow, oil in the motor, some suspension in the coming weeks, new set of lovells lows to go in. this one is staying factory height for a while.
