sounds more like your mate put the red jumper cable end on the black (negative) on the battery and black jumper cable onto the red battery (postive) terminal. ive never blown any fuses or had problems from jump starting a battery straight to the terminals, only risk is see is from sparks ignitining the gas from the battery acid.
have u checked the crt lamp fuse, courtesy lights still working? |

I'm thinking the same, as I always do it to the terminals, many many times.have u checked the crt lamp fuse, courtesy lights still working? Although I've had the jumpers backwards on the batterry and have very bad feeling I may have f**k something bad, but It's on a auto mk triton, nowthe thing wouldn't start, although my mate moved an earth to the coil pack and then it ran, but something went wrong as the coil pack caught fire when we switched it to on and left it sitting, not start but on...

Ive never understood why connecting the negative to the battery or the car makes any difference, theyre connected to eachother anyway. Ive done it heaps of times to the battery, I think he's mixed up red and black.

If he has jumpstarted the vehicle and heaps of sparks have occurred then it is quite possible he has blown the alternator fusible link because alternators do not like reverse polarity and the fusible link is there to protect the alternator from just that.It should be a small rectangular box with a see through lid with 100 or 80 written on it.It is mounted in the fusebox near the battery and if you look inside it there is a small silver/copper strip which should be unbroken just like a fuse.Time to investigate .Cheers Kevman

i would be guessing, but say the bcm too.
i tried to swap bcm in my el and it wouldnt relearn, but i noticed it would only lock the drivers door with the key at that stage too. i still dont understand how it can blow fuses just by jump starting though |

well...again. they were on right terminals.
it sparked when put on. it started fine. just blew the fuse for dash..everything else works fine. so bem possibly? from a surge of some sort?
