I bought the damper hook from ford yesterday for my conversion ($35 FYI) although I'm curious to know how it fits onto the fork. Voxaces doco shows it sort of just sitting there, and in my search a few people have suggested smashing it in with a hammer. My question is how far into the fork is it supposed to sit. Is smashing it in the right way about it? I really don't want to bend or damage the fork.

They should be pressed ( with tooling ) in till it stops, on the shoulder.

Thanks for that info. So it needs to go all the way in to where the two pins are? I might take it down to better brakes and get them to press it in.

The 2 pins, is one pin, it's in case the rubber vulcanisation lets go. They're should be a short end, right near the hook for the clutch cable, thats the end that goes in the clutch fork.

hi are you sure the damper hook needs to be pressed in for a t5 box? can some one who has changed the damper hook please confirm this? reason i ask is because it really doesnt look like it can be pressed in, based on all the piks i have seen it looks like it just sits there and the pressure of the cable holds it in place and doesnt allow it to fall??
confirmation please?? thanks moe.

What's the damper hook? If it's the cylinder looking thing that the clutch cable connects to on the bellhousing side, then no, it doesn't need to be pressed in, I changed mine in my EA and it wasn't pressed in and it ran perfect until I took the whole manual conversion out.
I don't know if they're supposed to be....but they don't have to be.

Yeah the cylinder thing is exactly what I'm talking about. So then I'm assuming the pressure of the cable holds it in place. Thatnks for that...

Mine is not pressed in. neither was the one in my EF. All up, I have been driving with it like this for 4 years. The only issue that I had was when my clutch cable snapped - the damper goes flying. My suggestion is to have a spare one, just incase you can't find it if the cable snaps.
