I want a nice system. Just some basic questions.

Where do I put my new 6" front splits? ...in the factory speakers place, correct?

Where does the amp go?

Is it safe to have a 12" sub in the boot considering my cars on gas?

generally whats the best bang for buck aftermarket audio system for the EL?

Might want to do a search here, but what your asking is to generalized and will need to be specific.

The 8" splits are an easy fix
Mount the 6 inch speakers in the doors behind trims and the tweeters in stock speaker locations on top of dash, you don't want to hear where the high range is coming from so don't worry about trying to angle the tweeters towards you

You can mount the amp up underneath the parcel shelf but since you have gas i would recommend mounting it underneath one of you front seats and just running speaker wires to your sub
Would hate to have gas leak and arcing out power cables in boot

Putting sub in boot won't bother your gas system at all, does your car have factory sub cutout in parcel shelf?
If so mount sub in there and keep what boot space you have

As for best audio system, what's your budget?
Lot of well known brands have cheaper options these days so try staying with these if your after some quality

You can build a decent Alpine sound system with amps, speakers and head unit these days for around 1500 for example

The standard locations for the 6" drivers are ok but the standard tweeter locations are terrible, you will only be able to hear the side nearest you and this is bad as treble is very directional you need both to be as even as possible otherwise it will sound like you have an ear plug in one ear.
It will greatly depend on what tweeter that you end up using as to where sounds the best but if you want half reasonalbe sound forget the standard dash tweeter mounts.....

my budget is 1500 - 2000$

Im thinking about getting a nice HeadUnit with front usb connection. A nice pair of high quality front splits, a nice Amp and a single 12" Sub in the boot.

just to clarify, do 6.5" front splits fit inside my front doors? any cutting required?

will the sub rattle the boot?

would sound deadening be worth it?

One of the best cars I've ever heard (I judge sound systems), was an EF with the speakers in the factory door and dash positions.

It can be done very well.

Now let me guess it was done with budget series speakers mounted behind the standard grilles, right?

I am guess time alignment was used and most likely using high quality speakers with the tweeter grilles removed with the tweeters mounted proud and on axis which is a bit out of the realm of a beginner.
I may not be a judge (for what that is worth) but I have never heard a system with tweeters facing straight towards the extreme lower corners of a windscreen (factory position) sound anything but one sided, at best, unless of course the balance is adjusted to suit the driver which sounds brilliant for the passenger, not!!!!

6 an 1/2" dont fit front door without modification, the tweeters fit under the panel under the windscreen where they are sposed to.you will need a stubby phillips to get to the 2 screws.
i change dso settings on my steeza to suit speaker size and location so dont encounter the acoustic issues others have described.
I.M.O 2 quality tuned 10inch subs sound better than most 12's.
12,s sound awesome if you sound deaden your whole boot and lid
15,s are too much in my experience.
hide you amp behind the boot carpet on the drivers side,screw your cross overs to the strut tower carpet on either side in the boot.

That will work for a one person setup but not for both sides, if you can get it right without processing it will be a much better result....
I agree about the 10's, over the years I have used 8's, 10's, 12's & 15's and keep going back to my favourite 10's that I have had for about 10 years now.....

Of course not, you need to use good components and install them right for the best results.



No T/A, grille removed, but otherwise in the factory location.



Being a judge means I get to hear lots and lots of cars. Experience has shown the EF/EL is a great platform to work with.

why is it a bad idea to have an amplifier in the boot with a gas tank?

Some will, some won't, it depends on the basket's dimensions....

I have a gas tank, Second battery to my dual battery system and sub in my boot.
The gas tank is vented to outside the car as per the law.
I can also run my sound system as long as I like due to the fact that it powered off the boot battery.
The batteries are not linked unless the ignition is turned on.
