I need help to find out why my EL wagon's rear suspension will not stay flat and straight on uneven roads while the front suspension will stay straight and flat on uneven roads. Even worse at higher speeds like 110km or more the rear axle (right hand wheel) will hop more causing me to try and keep the steering/wagon straight on the road as i say that Queensland has yoyo roads. the EL wagon is fitted with heavy duty shockers, heavy duty STD height front springs (Lovell Spring) and heavy duty rear swag bar, fitted with polyurethane bushes on front and rear suspension. So what l was thinking is the Diff is causing the rear right wheel to spin due by not having LSD fitted, or the rear swag bar is too heavy. But this never happened on my old EB wagon with LSD axles, same set up as EL wagon Can anyone help me goofyman |

Hi.
It sounds to me like there are two different issues here. The first one is the rear end being unsettled on rough roads at high speed. This to me would be normal for a heavy duty leaf sprung rear end, especially while the car is empty. The other issue sounds like that while accelerating you are loosing traction, again due to the stiffness of the rear suspension. I would agree that an LSD will assist in this regards. This would be worse while cornering. BenJ

BenJ Hi Ben, The rear leaf spring are at standard height but the fitting has a heavy duty sway bar and carries a fair bit of weight, full of fuel, 30 kg of tools including floor jack, 5 passages or 1 driver, it makes no different however some loads at the rear of the wagon make the ride smooth, but once l hit a pothole, rough road or go on a right cornering highway onto rough road and hit a small bump, it hop's (like kangaroo which gives me s fright) but the left turning is fine and complete rear axle has been replaced because is was worn out but the hopping is still there. i have previously replace the rear diff but i could not find a replacment that has LSD. Except the sedan has the coil spring setup for the fairlane or XR6 which are quite easy to retrieve from the wreckers. My last EB wagon had LSD and it never gave me any problem with the simpler setup thant the EL wagon so it might be being caused due to lack of assist of LSD as you said. The tyres are 'Michelin' which are just a month old and have travelled about 8000km's of distance. So what do you think the answer will be? It try and fit LSD. |

The sway bar is not a factory fitment, so you must have fitted it your self. Do you have any pics of the setup?
I would be checking all the bushes in the leaf springs and hangers as well as the spring saddle etc. It sounds like there could be something wrong. BenJ

factory sway from ford E serial sedan and will try send some picture tomorrow and again l have modifiying and fitted myself and it well engineer Ian |

How old are your shockies, sounds to me like the car isn't settling after a jolt or bump, the shockies are what control the springs stopping them from just bouncing up and down. Push the rear end of your car to make it go up and down (stand on the tow bar) and as soon as you stop pushing/bouncing the shockies should stop it straight away, if not your shockies are stuffed.
