Hey Neilo77, did you end up selling the AU?
What Khumo's were you running? Did you have any experience with them? I'm looking at putting a set of semi slicks on my track EF, and was looking for some experienced advice. Cheers |

Hi TP351
We were running Kumho as that was our controlled tyre. They were semi slicks. They seamed ok for the older model cars but they did not suit the AU to well and we had alot of front tyre failures on alot of different AU's. Because of this we are now changing to The Bridgestone semi slicks for our controlled tyre which we have also used in the past. Performance wise the Bridgey's are a little better in the dry than the Kumho's but the Kumho's were better in the wet. Most guys were only getting 1 race meeting out of a set of Kumho's and can get 2 race meetings out of the Bridgey's. My personal opinion would be to run the bridgestones but just do some research first. I really only had experiance with these 2 brands and there are many other brands out there on the market. What size wheels are you running? |

Thanks for the reply Neilo77,
I'm currently running 17" with 235 standard Ford issue Dunlops, which work ok. I had 18's on it with 245 std Dunlops, but found they seemed a lot slower than the original 16's with 225's cheapies on it. I've now got Territory brakes on the car so 17's are now minimum to clear the calipers. I'm running the car in club sprints at Winton, Sandown & Philip Island with a couple of mates in similar cars, ie: EF XR6 and an AU XR8 . There is not any huge competition, other than rivalry. They are both running slicks and I'm .4 sec off the AU at Sandown @ 1.36.75. (which I'm pretty happy with on street tyres! Still, it's probably slow....) I'd rather spend money on one good set of tyres than buy 2nd hand slicks and have to swap if the clouds come over. Plus I don't have a cage yet and the rules don't allow slicks without one. Do you recall which model number of tyre you used for both brands? I've been researching a bit, but there seems to be quite a number of tyres that the sellers are refering to as "semi slicks", particularly with the Kuhmo's. Also, do you have any clues as to where I could locate a cage to suit the EF, without spending too much $$$? Cheers, Tony |
