Hi all,
When I put my dash back together after a recent dash swap.. it all went well till I tried to steer the car... The uni joint attached to the steering shaft is wacking the firewall plate as it turns making hard spots... I've pulled the whole thing out and re-seated it to see if I can stop it knocking, but to no avail.. it's getting to the point where I just want to use the angle grinder to make the hole in the firewall 2 inches bigger.. (not really, but really really frustrated) Anyone know the trick to this? It's almost like the uni joint needs to go further toward steering box away from the firewall.. but the lower steering shaft bearing wont let it out any further... I didn't do anything but lower the wheel when I pulled the dash out, so I'm a little annoyed as I can't see how this would be necessary at all as I didn't change the steering at all... Anyone know the trick to getting this right? rgds Frank |

I retract the question... figured it out..
The guy who butched the old dash and looms appears to have put the knuckle in backwards... That explains why it started knocking from just dropping the column from where it bolted to the dash... I swapped it around after staring at my gregories manual for a while and now it's all good... it's hard to see cos the ends are not that different. anyway, sorry for bother. |
