I want to put a centre lap sash seat belt in my early series 2 eb. Has any one done this? I have the belts but upon looking in my dads ef it looks like the parcel shelf goes in around the belt mechanism to accomadate the height. If any one has done this please let me know. Changing my belts and buckles from my old ef into the eb for the back.

I don't believe it is easily achievable.
You would have to weld in the required piece into the current parcel shelf, and this may render the car unroadworthy. You would need to consult an engineer. If you are not even allowed to cut the speaker holes to fit larger speakers, then I think you will have worse problems if fitting the depression for the sash retractor. BenJ

So there is a depression in the metal of the parcel shelf on late eb's on? I don't think it's as bad as cutting holes in the parcel shelf if there is no difference in the actual shelf itself. I might do a more thorough analysis between old mans car and my car.

From Sept 92 the EB11s got centre lap sash belts.

Hi Go to www.autolivaftermarket.com/ and hunt around because I think they do a kit with a retractor that sits on top of the shelf and bolts through a reinforcment plate under the shelf just like when you had to put seatbelts in cars that didnt have them Cheers MD

My EB Fairmont Ghia s2 is Jan 93 build & doesn't have the parcel shelf recess, but there is a strange threaded hole that protrudes below it, that looks like a seatbelt could be bolted to it. I'm going to check the belt setups out more when i go to the wreckers soon. I shoulda paid more attention when i did the fairmont velour seat conversion in my mums ED Futura, it has the parcel shelf mounted center seatbelt. Cheers ToranaGuy

As I understand it, the mid life series two update, in Sept 92, which included smartlock and remote central locking also had the lap sash seat belt added. My old Feb 93 Fairmont had the lap sash in it.

I thought the lap sash belt only come in on the very last of the EB's & was standard on the ED? Cheers ToranaGuy
