Hi all,
I decided to re-use this thread rather than create a new one, so ignore all the replies below. I have set up the cluster in my T5 with the correct shim for pre-load, the cluster is quite firm to turn, is this normal? If i had a thinner shim in, it would lose preload nad have end play, if i put a thicker one in it will gain too much preload and jam up. So I'm wondering how firm the cluster should be when turning by hand?

If the input shaft and mainshaft are fitted, make sure the 2 selector hubs are in neutral.
Also check the peened post of the reverse selector shaft - bad cracks may be a sign of fatigue. In Andrew's photo above, it's in the top left corner.

Thanks Krytox, looks how mine is but my spring looks on a different angle, could be why it's hard to shift it.

Only have the cluster, billet bearing support and reverse stuff in at the moment. What do you mean by peened post? This poor thing has had the thrashing of a life time by the previous owner, i was tempted to get another reverse idler gear but i think mine should be right, the teeth faces look ok. I've checked the selector forks for cracks too, but none there which is good.

Reread my post and look at the photo.
