Thats a not bad price but u have to make sure its going to be a full reco instead of replacing the worn gear and leave the rest so essentially its a 2nd grand rebuild.

Are they going to fit the transmission for that $1800.00? if so, not a bad price. We sell Reco Autos at work and I believe they are $1750.00 alone, but that is for an AU 6cyl.

You CAN buy a new transmission but at $6,700.00, I would be looking at the Reco :D
Not everyone uses NEW parts in a reco so I guess you need to ASK the guy and has he told you about a Warranty?

1 yr warranty sucks big time, for that sort of money they should be giving at least 2 yrs warranty

Haggle him for 2yrs

Apparently BTR who sell the transmission parts only give the transmission joint 3 months warranty on all parts supplied, if thats true that is rediculas.

Find out exactly what is replaced in the reconditioned box, as there are many different levels of auto rebuilds possible, most people are not prepared to pay for anything close to a full rebuild which is easily over $2k.

The first level would be a seal kit, but I wouldn't call this a rebuild.

Then you can get new friction clutch discs and maybe front band.

Next would be new steel discs and rear band.

Oh and you can get standard genuine paper based frictions, or aftermarket kevlar.

You can then start to look at getting new bearings and clutch pistons.

Also a new S5 solenoid could figure into it too.

You could look at new hard parts (planetary gear set components), but usually these don't need replacement unless the old ones were problematic.
