and more importantly, easiest way to do it without motor removal...

I removed the left engine mounting bolt and jacked the engine up to get enough room to lower the sump. Another way is to drop the K frame, which is a bit more work. You need to raise and support the front of the entire vehicle.

I found that even lifting the engine and dropping the K frame slightly still didn't leave enough room to get the sump right out.
I recommend removing the engine. It may seem like a PITA, but you will save yourself a lot of time and frustration. And while the engine is out, change the rear main, clean and service all the hard to get parts, and even paint the block etc. Cheers BenJ

iirc the oil pick up is in there too. so getting the new seal in means flicking it under that if its in the car.
