hi folks,

this is more for my own curiosity than anything...

I have always had a thing for TE and TS 50s....

I know a fair bit about the 5.6 combo offered in the T3 but there is little info around about the T1 and T2 models. I know the T1s had a 200kw 5.0 and 220 in the T2s but I also heard they run alloy heads? is this true because i know the xr8s dont.

also did the te's all run the twin spot front brakes and xr8 suspension?

any info on these engines and the performance of the cars themselves would be greatly appreciated? (eg. 0-100 times, modifications over the xr8s, collectable potential etc)

cheers

Only a handful of the S1 220kw TS50s got the Y303 alloy heads, I think it was 30 or something.
The rest got GT40Ps.

S2 TS's up to about build 25 got GT40X heads IIRC My mates T2 TS #022 has Alloy heads standard.

The Premium brakes were standard (twin piston), Koni Reds optional

S1 TE's and TL's got 200kw (gt40p heads) ,roller rockers, headers, different cam (from xr8)
S1 TS got 220kw and alloy GT40X's, roller rockers, different cam again, 70mm aussie built throttlebody, same headers as the TE but with bigger cats and different ABS system (4 channel instead of 3).
all TL's and TS's were autos (with cool steering wheel mounted shift buttons and they were recalibrated for quicker shifts) , 5 speed manuals were an option for the TE only
bigger (329mm) front discs and stardard size rear discs were fitted, all discs were eccentrically grooved. all got braided steel brake lines
TS's and TL's got standard koni's , TE's got stardard XR8 suspension
18inch rims on the TS and TL's, TE's got 17 inch
TE's got standard xr8 dash with different cluster, TL's and TS's got the same high series dash (ghia/fairlane etc) but again with different cluster
S2 got almost the same as above but all got 220kw GT40P, both auto and manuals were available in the TE and TS's.
TE's got 287mm discs and the TS and TL got 329mm. (329mm option on TE's)
different front bar , colour coded headlights etc
koni's optional on TE's, standard on TS and TL's
all got high series dash , option sat nav.

Every info ive read says they were Y303 SVO alloy heads, not GT40x.
They even have it stamped on the head.

Or are they the same thing.?

Flow wise the heads go like this;
40P good
40Y better
40X best.

Y and X heads are completely different to 40P's and have a standard windsor, approx 45 degree spark plug angle.
40P spark plug angle is almost 90 degrees from the head.

awesome info xp221! thank you very much, i didnt realise the cams were different to XR8 were they more or less aggressive? these are great combinations, they really were a GT in a tuxedo. I wonder how their values will go in years to come

yeh your wright Sturmovik, the TS's had Y303's and not GT40x. its been a long 10 years since they were new and ive forgotten lots of details!
the TE's felt faster , the TS's went well over 3000rpm and sounded great.
i cant remember exact performance figures but i think they ran low 15's/high 14's. the manual 220kw ran about 14.7 in the 1/4
T3's are still the go though and worth every extra $$$
