Hi all,

Half way to work this morning.. all my electrics went dead..

engine kept running, but dash guages, park/brake and indicator lights and pretty much everything else just died... charging system was down too, as by the time I got to work the battery was nearly dead too.

Checked the fuses under the dash and the links in the engine bay and can't see any problems.. but can anyone think of something that would take down all the electrical systems including the charging circuit, but bar the engine?

ta

An earth wire?

Did you check the earth cable at the engine block and maybe dash earth.

Hope that helps.

yeah.. earths was the first thing I checked too... but it's possible one of the negative wires fell out of the negative battery terminal or something.. will go though that next.

yeah... looks like earthstraps were the problem..

replaced the one near the battery and also made a new big one for the engine.... just drove around for ages with absolutely every electrical device in the car turned on... voltage stayed above 13.5 the whole time...

Tentatively fixed it would appear.

have a look at your interior dome light and see if its blown, it happened to mine and apparently that can sometimes cause it

oh I don't think earths will be an issue again..

I'd already doubled up on all the earths near the ECU, (probably why the engine just kept going without problem yesterday, despite everything else having stopped)... the boot line has two separate ones too (because of extra load from trailer)

Now the engine has a new 2Guage earth straight from the engine to block mounting bolt to the chassis...

I also have a pretty special battery to chassis setup from my old EA to put on.. that has 3 separate 4 gauge lines from the terminal. (used to have a pretty serious stereo in it) so once I put that in.. I doubt I'll ever have earth issues again.

cheers
