G'day thrillseekers
Thoughtcha might like to know that I replaced the dizzy cap on my EL I6. For all those contemplating doing the same, a few words of advice: 1) think long and hard about this: does it REALY need to be done?? If not don't!!! 2) don't drink (booze) untill you've finished. 3) make sure your arms can bend in at least 6 places 4) make sure your arms are about 1 1/2 time longer than "standard" Method: 1) remove air intake box, and snorkel etc. 2) jack car up and contemplate removing aircon pump. It would make life easier. 3) disconnect wires to dizzy 4) remove inlet manifold brace. 5) CAREFULLY unclip the cover, trying not to lose/drop a clip. 6) use a magnet to pick up the dropped clips. 7) disconnect all the plugs wires 8) remove cap by moving it towards the rear of the motor. You will also dislodge the black round thing that the cap sits on, but that's o.k. 9) get under car with new cap, and have assistant pass thro' plug wires and connect to cap NOTE: DON'T FORGET THE COIL!!!! 10) by wriggling and squirming and getting into the engine bay, replace the cap making sure everything "clicks" into place. The cap and the black thingy only go on one way. 11) replace air intake bits. etc. 12) have a Bundy or two, and get bandaids for scratches etc. Now after I did this, there was a marked improvement in the engine response. It felt better, and didn't change down on a hill that it normally changes down on. Overall, a good exercise. The original cap was 8 years old, and was caked with gunk on the terminals cyas |

I had mine off a few weeks ago when i put my topgun leads on, without taking the airbox or snorkle off.
It is a prick of a job though.

Why can't things be like they usta . Plenty of room around the donk, no extra plumbing and a bloody carburettor. Just turn the mixture screw until it coughed, and then turn it back a tad. Distributors where you could see 'em. (well, on sensible cars like Fords anyway) "sigh"
