Not sure if there is any other posts on this issue. EL Falcon
Only just started a week ago, when I shift back into a lower gear instead of the revs kicking up, it seems to engage the auto clutch and sit at idle. Than if you press the throttle the revs come back until you back off the throttle than back to idle. Very annyoying, as I like to use the engine compression to slow down. Could this be a relay, switch or solenid issue? And if anyone knows the location of it. Cheers |

my car used to slow down really well using the engine but doing it more and more iv noticed after 6months that my car doesnt slow down no where near as much even if revs are like 3,500 so mabye mines leading into your problem

Yeah, the gear box has had a full service a few months ago. It still runs fine if you leave it in drive, but thats not me like to be able to use the gears.

Hi. The most likely culprit is the Inhibitor switch, which is mounted on the left side of the gearbox. You can try cleaning all the plugs etc, but if this shows no change, source a good second hand or new one.
Cheers BenJ

Don't drive it around manually down-changing. It will f**k that particular clutch in the auto very quickly. CJH and XPvanman can tell you more, they seem to be the auto gurus.

Autos are designed to manually shifted the whole idea of an automatic was you still can drive it manually with out using a clutch. Using the gears saves wear on brakes. You only screw it up by being stupid.

i had the same prob with mine, i found out that my torque converter was screwed because when i pulled the box apart, the clutch packs looked alright and i am currently driving around with a new box but same inhibitor switch!!! my is in an au1 99 but they should be almost if not the same box!!
thats my diagnosis anyway, hope it helps Nathan

It's one of the clutches that has gone. Your gearbox is fine otherwise. I drove for 100,000kms with this condition in my EB's previous gearbox before it died from unrelated causes (trans cooler hose split, box cooked @ 110kph).
