Just found out today that ford havent ever used gaskets on their 5.0 oil pumps where it bolts to the block.
i have pulled apart two 5.0 motors and they both had no gasket,i have read previously about it but i asked my engine machinist today and he confirmed it. Well id just like to say cheers ford, nice cost saving exercise. How bloody stupid of an idea was that??? |

constant exposure to oil would see it perish pretty quick, putting even more contaminates in the oil, there is no need for a gasket there anyways, its oil exposed to oil if its bolted on properly 2 machined surfaces would provide sufficient seal. I know thats the case with the 6.

Gaskets are meant to be exposed to oil and fluids constantly, and they dont just perish thats silly.

If it makes you feel better Lexus / Toyota have the same..
In fact the Lexus V8 doesn't have a sump gasket, just some silicon..

Pretty sure the first EAs never came out with a rocker cover gasket either, not that it was a success and I think they were recalled not long after.

If your worried about it, use a smear of Loctite 515/518....that will seal it...I use it to seal motorcycle crankcase halves......no probs.
