Hey,
I have an EA (MPFI) project car running the 4sp BTR trans. (Stock trans that came out factory with car) When the transmission is cold (initial start in the morning) the shifting is smooth (changes into 2nd at 3000rpm in ECO mode, is this right???). When I have done approx. 2km the trans shifting becomes clunky, noticeable between 1-2 (harsh thudding from trans??? diff???). RPM also holds at change between 1-2 ie. won't shift initially when giving it some curry, but will only after deceleration or 3-5secs at 3000rpm The other thing is that the trans will only change into overdrive with throttle at 0% in 3rd. Annoying at highway speeds. I have changed the TPS/Trans sensor to read approx 0.93V, trans fluid level is OK I am thinking of adjusting the bands, or replacing the solenoids. (Don't really want to change the trans) I have ran a few searches but nothing has come up... Any comment, advice or whisp of a possible cause would be greatly appreciated. when was it serviced, cant really remember when mine changes in eco (hardly use it) think its just over 2k, when doing highway speeds and to change in to top gear you have to take foot off is this in both modes?

UPDATE:
When I go up through the gears (in either ECo or PWR mode) Second gear is non existent (will slip all the way through the rpm range until about 3500 rpm) Third gear is fine but will not change into overdrive... Would this suggest the rear band needs adjusting?... Also because the 1-2 change is harsh this would suggest the front band needs adjusting... |

The rear band is used in reverse & manual 1st gear only.
The front band is used in 2nd & 4th gears. Try adjusting it first - Screw the adjuster in till it is FIRM, then back it off 2 1/2 turns. But if it is bad as you say it is - the band will be worn out or broken, which is very common on BTR's. |

UPDATE:
checked the front band adjuster bolt, was hand tight, tightened it to 10Nm and problem solved, thanks for the comments |
