is the TPS a plug that is connected to the throttle body? or the little black knob on the ISC?

you definatly need a timing light to set the timing..
if its an el the base ignition timing in diagnostic mode is 0eg btdc +or-2 deg.. so the 2 timing marks need to line up.

and the tps voltage for the 6 cyl is .7v throttle closed..

and the tps is on the front side of the throttle body.
with a plug with 3 wires...

ok, i will try and scope out a timing light tomorrow afternoon. I did the base idle reset that was in the V8 section, and it helped a little, its idling a little high around 900rpm, but at least its stable for now. if i try to drop it any lower it seems to hunt again, although not as bad as it was.

also now with the idle stable i should be able to tell when it gets into diagnostics mode, i couldnt tell last time because it was constantly almost stalling.
