Why don't you ask on a forum that would have more people that would have actually heard these products? Mobile Electronics Australia will have lots of people who've actually heard the DD.

Sound Quality, Alpine in a sealed box. What goes louder? DD in a ported box.
Both good brands and subs. I would go the alpine because i like alpine lol |

I'd definitely pick something other than the Alpine if I was after sound quality

I haven't used the DD but after hearing the Type R's I would be inclined to get the DD. They have higher sensitivity so you should get more sound out of them too.
I don't know who mentioned the type R's have better SQ, but if you are after SQ I wouldn't go either of these subs.

DD are mainly used for SPL due to their construction I believe, they can handle the punishment, however they will still sound great in SQ setup. It depends on the set up rather than name brand...you can buy the best sub and have the worst enclosure and have the s**t sound...or have a semi decent sub, great set up, much better music to the ears (body if SPL). I'd take a DD sub over an Alpine.
