Apparently the walbro's cant deal with the super high fuel pressures that the snort 12:1 reg's create.
They can pump the fuel required to make 550hp but not at super high pressures. |

There is a lot of confusion about these Walbro pumps. They have a great rep OS.
First, there's a low and high pressure version, and two flow variants. The non HP one will not work well with an FMU or high rate rising reg, and I think it's the cause of the 'bad rep' they seem to have. If they have metalic gears when you look in the inlet hole, it's generally legit. Look around and avoid getting ripped off, watch out on ebay. Finally, based on experience, a Bosch 040 will not flow enough fuel for a boosted 4L (there are some false specs around, but they only actually flow 102LPH). You need an 023, or a 044 with an in-tank kit. Jason

Thats exactly right. They can not deal with the amount of pressure needed. Thay can flow 550hp IF you are running larger injectors becasue there wont need to be as much pressure in the fuel lines. But if you have stock injecters like i do there needs to be a huge amount of fuel pressure to supply fuel into the engine. The walbro can only handle up to 6.5psi using the snort setup, as what happened to me when i was getting it all dyno tuned. Hope this helps

yer cheers!but still not quite at that stage after changin the head gasket tonite it seems the motors turned into a milkshake maker..coolant gettin into oil yay when the head was off there were no visual signs of damage to the chambers n only very very slightly warped ead, with the straight edge n feeler gauges was under max spec so that seemed ok..so ive got the coolant pressure tester on while its drainin overnight with a clean container underneath see if fresh coolant will come out but fingers crossed may be just coolant from when the head came off/blew last time but is very milky so not holdin my breath..but the good news is that i found the wastegate actuator has a 10psi spring in there so found the reason for detonation i was under the impression the turbo snort provides should be setup for 6pound but anyway thats sorted now..so the nightmare continues but i will win!!

as soon as you get it all sorted go get it j3 chiped and tuned. It will save you a lot of hassle in the future.

{USERNAME} wrote: well yesterday i got her runnin pretty well gapped the plugs new o2 sensor n put a lot more timin in her n she ran pretty well still not perfect had detonation on high load/full throttle but runnin 20times better than before...but today the nightmare continued when i was tryin new timing again low n behold the headgasket went...happy days, n also had a vacuum/boost gauge on today to check boost n the effen thing would go full boost i mean the gauge only wrent to 10psi but it would just spike right to the end so i geuss thats not gonna help the matter.the line to the wastegate was on n fine, also used this line to T in the gauge so it is recievin manifold pressure, tried movin the gate arm seems to be fine springs back n all, so s**t i dunno i geuss first things first a head gasket was goin o use the au metal shim gaskets but the compression i have atm is already above factory 9.5:1 when comp tested got bout 13-1400kpa (200psi) n i think the au gaskets are slightly thinner but stronger..but after thats sorted i geuss check the wastegate operation with somethin opposite to a mighty vac ive never seen one that can give out +ve pressure tho any ideas?..n then T in a boost controller into the line set to low n see how it is then. Are you testing with a wideband o2 sensor? Sounds like you went too far / aggressive with the timing. Good luck with it.

jus wanted to know how u found out u had a 10psi spring in ya gate? Ive got a 50mm external gate from snort an wanted to check wat spring i had? (its second hand). |

ok seems we are both right kinda, the 102lph rating is correct however that is measured @6.5bar! interestingly they only quote the flow rate of the 044 @4bar
so yeah, who knows |
