If i want to read the fault codes on my el can i just use a test light on the same diagnostic terminals as you use to check the timing?
I did it ages ago on my eb and cant remember exactly how, and my max ellerys manual is as good as a hit in the head. pretty sure i just had the key on and engine off and read the number of flashes on the test light, does this sound about right? Cheers Milo |

pretty sure it the 5th pin from the left on the top row for reading fault codes.
look in the tech section, EF/EL- EEC V diagnostic, it has the answers you are looking for mate.

I went through the docos twice and couldnt find it, is there a chance its not there or could it be called something else

I'm going to be doing a doco on this subject. I do it to mine everytime I do work on the car. It is a very good tool.

Here is a small bit to get you started milo, I pulled it from another thread:
"BTW, you do not need to have the engine running to extract fault codes from the ECU. Bridge the far left top and bottom terminals and hook up a analogue multimeter to the 5th top pin from the left or use a LED. Turn the key to ON and away you go. They are 3 digit codes on the EF/EL ECUs. It isn't hard and will take away some of the headscratching and guess work." |

Thanks Barnacus, it certainly is handy to be able to get the fault codes without a scan tool.
ill see what secrets the ecu has for me
