Hey guys,
I'm doing a i6 to v8 conversion on my NL Fairlane. The V8 is a Standard Windsor from another old NL. So the stock 165kw 5l. I am curious as to how much power I'll have at the end with the additional work I am going to the engine. The guys going the work say I should get more than 140rwkw. Work being done. Replace stock heads with GT40x Mild Cam upgrade Revised Explorer Manifold 65mm throttle body upgrade (apparently 70mm is rare as hens teeth) Dephillipo Extractors into modded cats out to 2.5in unrestricted system (2 pipes out the back on each each side).. so looking at the back of the 'lane it would have 4 tubes Hiflow cold air intake Lukern (or something like that) Hi flow filter. Upgraded computer (or chip or what ever they call it) Is the assumption made re power reasonable? I am a noob to this, so apologies if this sounds stupid. Thanks guys in advance. |

Easy 160kw at the wheels. Even more with a tune, MAF and larger injectors.

It simply isn't possible to run the exhaust out both sides in a sedan without a custom boot floor with no spare wheel provision and a centrally mounted fabricated steel fuel tank. This is because the stock plastic tank sits right up against the rear bar.

You will need to remove the standard Fuel tank and fit a new fuel cell within your spare wheel well. There is not enough clearance to legally fit a left and right side twin system to a E series sedan. I have been down this track with both the sedan and the wagon and have been told that The exhaust people that I spoke with would not fit it as the exhaust was within 50mm of the tank and that included having some sort of heat shielding fitted. Others say it can be done and I a sure it can but do you want to risk setting fire to your car or in worst case blowing it up for the sake of twin exhausts. Good sound can be had form fitting a good dual system and exiting where Ford intended it too. |

Welcome to the forum.
70's are not rare but....The 65mm t-body is the best size for mild 5.0's and is especially good when your vehicle is a fairlane(heavy). Exhaust wise and for the same reasons I would probably stay with a 2 1/4" twin rather than the 2 1/2" twin and as far as I know DiFilippo only makes a 1 3/4" 4 into 1 for the 5.0 which is much too big for the engine combo and the weight of the vehicle. A set of 1 5/8" primary 4-2-1 headers would better suit your engine/vehicle. Something you should also realise is that the peak hp figure is irrelevent...it's the torque curve and average power that make the difference. Cheers, Pete. |
