I just recently bought a motor to play with and learn how things go of a*** it got to be FORD, I was just wondering what engine kit should I use? It will be going in a xr, xy, or xw falcon, I would like ro have decent power but reliability. I will be running a pro comp 270H cam.

A kind word of warrning mate, steer wel clear of ProComp aka ProCrap. If you hit the Search tab at the top of the page and type in procomp, have a good read. Even do a google search on Procomp and check out any forum entries. You'll see a lot of negative reports on their stuff across the board in Australia.
To answer your question though, first we'd need to know what engine you have to start with. 302, 351, Windsor or Cleveland? I suppose if I were to search that part number, it would tell me, but I'm off to bed. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will find it just as helpful as I have over the years.

Couple of things you need to work out
1 How much power 2 What will it be used for 3 Budget 4 What engine All 4 work in together. Budget will determine how much power you can safely make. What engine will detirmine the limit of the power you can make. What will it be used for will help you decide how much power you want to make. Consider this, a 302 EFI block is safe to 450hp before the block becomes prone to cracking ( which means that you can go 306,331,347 or 363) but the bigger striokers approach the HP limit a lot quicker. A 351 EFI block is good for 650 hp and can then be stretched to the following sizes 378,393,408,410,427. This is where bugdet comes in. If not using a stock block and going aftermarket, then add atleast 3200 for a decent aftermarket block. If you are using it as a daily then the need for big HP is nice, but not really necessary. Hence you can choose the options for the stroker kit ( forged/cast crank, forged/cast pistons). These wont affect overall HP, but will affect longevity and cost. HP is cheap, reliabilty costs. Make you decisions based on the 4 above criteria then get back to us Brett

Cheers everyone for all of knowledge, I have found out that my crank is not dead just the block so I will have to get a new block. Budget wise is not really in my mind as i am not in a hurry it is going to be my weekend driver/fun car .
ps: I am looking for a ford 302-351 cleveland block in SA, has to be good condition! |
