hey everyone, have been trying to lower my car, got the back done easy as, but on the front i cant seem to get the strut/coil overs out, few people said to try unbolting the sway bar, so i did that. and it helped but still not enough room for the coil over to swing out and down, from what i can see, the castor rod i think its called, the rod that goes from the hub towards the front of the car, its bottoming out on the frame of the car at the front, so it wont let the hub go any lower, iv tryed compressing the standard spring to make more room, but with no sucess,
is there a simple way to do this? am i missing something? cheers, Rob. |

You'll have to remove the castor rod its the easiest way to do it (well when i did it) and it will fall in and out of place once the castor rod is removed and also a good idea to check the castor rod bushes too while its out

undo the the upper control arms from the body or at the ball joint...
push down on the hub with your foot. then the whole spring/shock assembly can be removed.. oh! and do you have the whole front end jacked up?? as this will help, this way there is no load on the sway bar... |

thanks for the replys, yeh the car was on jack stands off the ground, no load on sway bar, i tryed to remove the upper control arm but the ball joint is locked on tight and i cant get it to pop off, but i never tryed unbolting it on the body, as for the casster rod, how the bugger do u get it out lol, i know theres a bolt on the hub for it which iv had off before, and one at the front, but even with that, how does it come out? from what it looks the whole hub will have to move towards the back of the car alot for it to come out.
all a bit confuseing, iv got an r33 which has a very similar setup in the front as my ED but the strut was short ennough just to come out, unlike the ED cheers, Rob |

to get the caster rod/strut bar off you need to undo the lower control arm from the k frame..
but you dont need to undo it to get the shock/sprong out.. |
