crossovers are used to distribute sound and between speakers.

they send treble to the tweeters and bass and mids to the woofers

if you buy cheaper speakers i think they come with built in crossovers (eg 2 way speakers) but higher end are called splits and have the tweeter mounted seperate from the woofer

so they are not required for every car setup, if you need then they should have come with your speakers

hope that makes sence

that was me in lauras account :?

when you buy splits they should come with the correct crossovers...

you will destroy your tweeters if you connect them to a amp/headunit without a crossover...

was hoping this was going to be a discussion about crossovers as in mini suv's

I have those in my parcel shelf and doors. How much ya pay for em?

The tweeters that came with those splits dont fit underneath the dash cover i found and i had to make a bracket for it, i was about to rig up soemthing to do it but decided to go with the original tweeters.

i payed 99 a pair do you have a photo of how the original ford tweeters sit ?

i must agree with the sound quality even with my two 12 inch woofers in the boot turned off i can feel the bass through the front doors.

With cheaper splits (including your factory ones) the crossover is very simple.
You'll find a capacitor across the terminals on the back of the tweeter. This cuts out a bit of the bass so the tweeter is receiving mainly high frequencies.

They don't put anything on the bass speaker as sending a high frequency to it won't hurt it.
