If so, this is the single biggest factor that hinders your acceleration off the line. The first gear is really tall. You will already have 3.45 diff gears, and you can install 3.7, 3.9 or 4.11 gears to help this. A high stall convertor for the auto with a larger cam, combined with a diff gear change would make it punchy off the line. But both of these mods eat up the $$$. The XR6 cam already is quite a torquey cam. You could look at a Wade 1636 which would improve power from 2000rpm up, but won't help with off the line performance. BenJ

so its got a 2.5in exhaust, EF air intake, KnN filter, Shift Kit, and pretty much a new cylinder head.
and yeah it is an auto. i was thinking about changing the diffs to a 3.9, 4.11 maybe too high as the revs will increase a fair bit. yeah I used to own an EL Futura and I do find that the XR6 is more torquey than the Futura, so I thought that could be because of the cam. Thats why I want something that is better off the line. two other things that I was considering. 1. Convert the car to a manual i.e T5 gearbox 2. Try and see if the ZF gearbox from a BF will fit into an EL. However the latter of the two may require a different ECU, therefore requiring a DOHC engine. or maybe some alterations to the existing ECU ay work. What do you guys think? |

A cam won't get you off the line better on it's own.
The reason the XR feels better off the line than the GLi is due to the diff gears, 3.45 for the XR and probably 3.08 for the Gli. T5 conversion is a great thing and completely transforms the feel and driveablity of a falcon. ZF, keep dreaming. Even if you can locate and buy one for under a few thousand $$$$, you would need several more thousand $$$$$ to get it to work etc. Cheers BenJ

mabye get a cam that good for say 2500 or 3000 and over and get a hi stall and u wont need a cam that makes its power below 3000
unless your totally perfect with manuel i would be carful with the conversion altho more fun to drive when u mean low end gains u mean for a a low end gain on the rpm or a 0-100?

i want low end gains for both, rpm and 0-100
if i am able to get better low end for rpm then naturally 0-100 will be quicker. |

just keep in mind, that any cam that gives you more down low will loose out up top..
if you want more off the mark acceleration? lower diff gears or a t5 conversion will give it better low end feel.. |

a high stall and 3.9 gears and she'll move off the line quite nice...

dont forget that a cam with a proper tune can make more power down low than a stocker...
but i would agree that you must get some diff gears to really assist
